Loc Maintenance Guide

Sisterlock and Microlock Maintenance Do's

  • Call your loctician if you have any questions.
  • Wash you hair with a clarifying or loc specific shampoo that doesn't contain any conditioning agents.
  • Braid and band.  Part your hair into small sections, and loosely braid each section leaving enough space to massage the scalp.
  • Allow the hair to dry at least 80% to 100%.  It should be mostly dry or all the way dry when removing the braid and bands.  Braiding and banding prevents slippage, unraveling, and bunching.
  • Separate your locs in between each wash.  Most hair tends to grow together, making it painful to pull apart.
  • Spritz your hair with water only.  Everything in moderation.
  • Enjoy your loc journey.
  • Wash hair every 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Ensure to get reties completed every 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Braid your hair if you sweat a lot, especially during workouts.
  • Wrap your hair at night and ensure to cover your hair during showers.
  • Protect your investment.

Sisterlock and Microlock Maintenance Don't

  • Don't use any oils or conditioners.  It will unravel the hair and cause slippage, interrupting the loc'ing process and can be costly.
  • Don't go too long in between reties.  It can potentially cause damage depending on the hair type and can be costly to the client.
  • Don't dye your hair (to include box dye, bleach, or rinses) after being established.  Consult with your loctician.
  • Don't wash your hair without braiding and banding.  The repairs are costly if damaged.
  • Don't manipulate your hair too much in the beginning of your journey.
  • Don't swim without a swimming cap.
